Founder, Bamboo Bicycles Beijing

David Wang founded Bamboo Bicycles Beijing (BBB) in 2014 in Beijing, China.  At BBB, David and his team teach individuals to build their own bamboo bicycles to create a community that values a culture of human-powered mobility that balances out the rapid growth of car culture.  Leveraging his background in cultural anthropology and qualitative market research on Chinese youth culture, David designed BBB to provide an action-based approach to education and building community in a society that is becoming increasingly frenetic and consumption-oriented.  Thus far, BBB has taught over 3000 students who have made over 400 bamboo bicycles.  Equipped with design skills, fabrication skills and a focus on community, these students have gone on to successful academic and professional lives.  In addition to its permanent workshop in Beijing, BBB has held workshops across China and the world including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, rural Laos, Taiwan, Boston, Ethiopia and more.  In addition to its weekly DIY workshops, BBB now works directly with schools, companies, and NGOs to set up workshops and trainings.  David and BBB have been featured in Fast Company China’s 100 Most Creative Entrepreneurs, the WHO’s 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, Pacific Standards 30 Under 30, National Geographic, NBC, CCTV, Taobao 1st Maker Festival, and several more public platforms.
